FAQ
-
How does Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) work?Exposing your body to extemely low temperatures (typically ranging from -200F to -240F) causes your body to pull blood away from the extremities and send it to your core where it is enriched with oxygen, enzymes, nutrients, and endorphins. As your body warms up, the nutrient rich blood is pushed throughout your body creating an overall feeling of euphoria and well-being.
-
Is it safe?Yes. Nitrogen is a natural gas that accounts for 78% of the air that we breathe. The cold air is a vaporized nitrogen so you never come in to direct contact with liquid nitrogen. In addition, the Titan CryoCabin has a built in safety mechanism that circulates the gasiform air throughout the cabin rather than having it gravitate towards your head. Your extremities are also protected with gloves, slippers, and socks, and the session is limited to 2-3 minutes.
-
I'm claustrophobic. Can I leave the chamber when I want?YES! Your head will remain above the cryosauna so you are never fully enclosed. Additionally, the Titan Cryocabin has an emergency shutoff if you feel uncomfortable at any given time. Lastly, a Cryo 512 tech is always with you supervising the session.
-
Do I have to take a shower before or after? No. In fact, you need to be completely dry when you enter the CryoCabin. WBC is a completely dry session, and no shower is necessary.
-
Is this covered by health insurance? No. It is not covered by insurance yet, but some specific companies will allow you to use your HSA card.
-
What happens in a Cryotherapy session? Before you step in to the cryosauna, you will change in to your undergarments. We provide a robe, socks, slippers, and mittens to protect your extremities. There will be a dry towel to use to dry off any areas that may be wet or damp. You will then step in to the Titan Cryocabin, and a Cryo 512 Tech will adjust the height so that your head is fully above the cryo sauna. At that point, the session will begin, and vaporized nitrogen will begin circulating throughout the cryosauna. Each session lasts 2-3 minutes. When the session is over, you will be handed your robe over the Cryocabin, and then you will return to your fitting room to get dressed. It's that simple!
-
What do I wear during a Cryotherapy session?Women can wear a sports bra and underwear or the equivelent. Men wear underwear. Gloves, socks, and slippers will be provided as well to wear throughout the session.
-
How often should I do Cryotherapy to achieve optimal results? We recommend no less than 6 sessions in the first two weeks to achieve maximum benefit. Thereafter, 2-3 sessions per week is recommended for optimal results.
-
Is Nitrogen dangerous?Nitrogen can be dangerous if too much is inhaled, but the Titan CryoCabin has built-in safety measures that keep the vaporized nitrogen circulating throughout the chamber to prevent the gasiform air from enveloping your head.
-
How many Cyrotherapy sessions can I do in a day? There is a maximum of two sessions per day.
-
What is the difference between Cyrotherapy and an ice bath?Whole body cryotherapy is very different from traditional ice baths. Whole body cryotherapy only takes 2-3 minutes as opposed to 15-20 minutes for an ice bath, and there is far less discomfort in a WBC session. During an ice bath, the body responds by warming the blood in the core and sending it out to the peripherals. Throughout the WBC process, Whole body Cryotherapy actually pulls blood FROM the peripherals in to the core where the blood undergoes an enrichment process before returning to the peripherals. During the rewarming proces, nutrient rich blood is sent thorughout the body creating a feeling of euphoria and well being which does not occur in traditional ice baths. In addition, traditional ice therapy causes the muscles to stiffen and congeal, which means that you can not return to exericse immediately, but you can return immediately to exercise following WBC. Traditional ice baths are far more invconvenient and painful, and far less effective and beneficial.
-
Will I get frostbite? No. Your extremities are protected, and the sessions only last 2-3 minutes. We do ask that you are completely dry, and that all clothing is dry before you enter the Cryosauna.
-
Who should NOT use Cyrotherapy?Contraindications of WBC: Pregancy, hypothyroidism; narrowing of valves; crescent-shaped aorta and mitral valve; chronic disease of the respiratory system; severe hypertension (blood pressure > 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction (heart attack; need to be cleared for exercise), arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident (stroke; must be cleared for exercise), uncontrolled seizures, fever, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, infection, claustrophobia, intolerance to cold, age less than 18 years (parental consent to session needed), incontinence.
